The Good Old Sukhumvit
People usually associate Sukhumvit Road with department stores, luxury hotels and one of Bangkok's most visited tourist centrals, but there are more to this somewhat cliché road than meets the eyes. It used to be over 480 kilometres long—journey starts from Bangkok and head out to the eastern provinces of Chonburi through to Trat via Pattaya. Of course, this road still remains to be called Sukhumvit in Bangkok and in those provinces, but a particular stretch of it is now split and renamed to Old Sukhumvit Road where it passes through my hometown province of Samutprakarn.
The following visual documentation looks at a typical struggle of urban landscape in a gradually growing economy along Old Sukhumvit Road between Samutprakarn district of Samrong and Phraeksa. This includes a few historic landmarks, such as the old cinema Paknam Rama and the recently demolished Chinese cemetery.
